Athena, Oregon, is an agricultural community of approximately 1,200 residents in the traditional homelands of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla, in what is now Umatilla County. First settled by non-Indigenous in the 1860s as Centerville (being approximately halfway between Pendleton and Walla Walla, Washington), the town's name was changed to Athena in 1889.
