- Provenance
- A.W. Metzger & Co. was a grocery, feed, and hardware store located at 21 SE Roberts Ave, in a strip of buildings that overlooked what is now Main City Park. The original owner, Dan Metzger, founded the store in about 1895 before selling it to his nephews Adelbert W. (Bert) and William Metzger in 1911. A.W. Metzger was briefly appointed mayor of Gresham in 1917 and also served on the board of Gresham High School. He died in 1946, leaving the store to sons Bud and Dean Metzger. The store became Metzger Feed Co. and remained in operation until about 1966.
