This brick was salvaged from the former Trufflehunter Restaurant after its demolition in 2023. The building was originally constructed by Jacob Metzger in 1911 as his family's home and his daughter Mabel Metzger Farris continued to live there until selling it in 1982 to the restaurant owners. The Trufflehunter building was added to the City of Gresham's Historic Resource Inventory in 1987 but owner Mary Ward successfully applied for its removal in 1998. The restaurant closed in 2020 and was demolished in March 2023 to make way for a mixed residential and commercial complex. Charlotte Becker acquired this brick after the buidling's demolition by asking one of the construction workers to toss it over the chain link fence to her. Most bricks comprising Gresham area buildings of this age were manufactured at the Columbia Brickworks.
Columbia Brickworks is located on Hogan Road where it crosses Johnson Creek in southeast Gresham, near Hillsview. It was founded by Franz Olbrich, Sr. in 1906. It remained in the Olbrich family until 1973. - Type
