- Emergency-only telephone service was available in Gresham as early as 1894. In 1906, local businesspeople founded the Multnomah and Clackamas County Mutual Telephone Company, the town's first commercial phone company, headquartered in the Gresham Drug Store building. Customers used 16-party lines, and conversations were limited to five minutes. This photo is likely of the M & C Mutual Telephone Company office in Gresham.
