- From the estate of the Fanchers' daughter-in-law Phyllis Fancher Becker, donated by Becker's daughter Marsha Curtis in 2005. The United States began issuing ration books in 1942 when it officially entered World War II, with tires, gasoline, shoes, and sugar being some of the most commonly rationed items.
