Walter Balmer Dairy Barn
1920s
Gresham, Multnomah County, Oregon, United States
Photograph of the Walter Balmer Dairy Barn, taken between 1927 and 1933. The barn was located at the intersection of Stark and Kane in Gresham, across from what is now Mt. Hood Community College. The Balmer family owned 80 cows, and delivered milk and cream to Gresham, Troutdale and Montevilla areas. When the Great Depression made it difficult or impossible for people to pay their bills, Walter Balmer had to give up the dairy, instead raising feed for the cattle across the road.

- Provenance
- Donated by Wally Balmer, Walter Balmer's son. Date of donation unknown, but information about the photo was given by Wally Balmer via phone call on October 6, 1998. Balmer mentioned that the barn was built by the Reeds of Reedville, which would put the date of construction prior to Simeon Gannett Reed's death in 1895 - the accuracy of this claim is very questionable.
