- Description
- Poem by an unknown author about the hardships of being an associate conductress - a position in the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic organization. The poem was typed in blue ink and possibly copied with a mimeograph. There is tape residue around the borders of the poem.
- Provenance
- Found in an envelope of Bateman family memorabilia. The author may have been Belle Bateman. The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic organization that was established in 1850, and is open to both men and women. Oregon's first chapter was established in 1870, and at one time 66 chapters of the organization existed in the state. Between 14 and 18 roles exist in each chapter, with an associate conductress being the earliest that women members are eligible for - hence the hardships described in the poem.
