- Ellen Simonsen Gillmer was born in 1900 to Norwegian immigrant parents on their farm near East Powell and Burnside, the present site of an urgent care clinic. She was the youngest of three, with brother Alfred the eldest and sister Ann the middle child. Later in life, she volunteered at the Gresham Historical Society and recorded her reminscences of growing up in the early 1900s.
