- William Henry Shattuck b. 1863, California d. 1905 Son of Henry Clay Shattuck and Kate Loose. H.C. Shattuck and Kate Loose came to California in 1862 in the same covered wagon train, H.C. coming west for the gold rush, and Kate to live with her grandfather Daniel Lownsdale, one of the founders of Portland. By the time they reached Sacramento they had decided to get married. H. C. worked as an accountant for a mining company, but found gold under the house that he had bought. By selling the mineral rights to the land, the couple was able to afford to take a steamship up the coast and purchase land on Powell Valley Road in 1866.
