A wooden carriage house stands behind the hall, and is identified as the "Beaver State Herald" building by a sign hung on the upper left portion of the porch. Small placard is affixed to the front of the hall reads "Gresham Lodge No 125 IOOF." A note in pencil on the back of the photo reads "About 1907, Timothy Brownhill in buggy with youngster, H.L. St Clair, George Metzger, Jesse Francis [Johnson], Dalles Simonson, Chase St. Clair."

- Found in collections. The Beaver State Herald was an early Gresham newspaper, published weekly in Gresham until 1911, and then published in Lents until 1914 when it merged with the Arleta-based Mt. Scott News to become the Mt. Scott Herald, which was published until 1923. H.L. St. Clair was best known as the proprieter of the Gresham Outlook, which he founded in 1911. He purchased the Beaver State Herald in 1904, and he and Timothy Brownhill worked on the Herald until 1908. Brownhill was the editor, Simonson was an owner, and Johnson was the typesetter (compositor).
